S. Craig Zahler

S. Craig Zahler (b. 1973, Miami, Florida) studied cinematography at New York University, but he has realized his creative ambitions on a variety of fronts. In the field of music, he's the lyricist and drummer for the metal band Realmbuilder. As a writer he has penned several popular Western novels, the first of which was A Congregation of Jackals (2010).

In the world of film, he had to wait for his big break despite having written a number of screenplays, including The Brigands of Rattleborge, which circulated around Hollywood and made it to the top of the prestigious Black List of unrealized scripts. Steven Spielberg and Park Chan-wook showed interest but both ultimately backed away. Zahler then decided to direct another of his scripts himself, and he managed to find a highly respectable cast despite a modest budget. Bone Tomahawk is the 43-year-old filmmaker's directorial debut.
