Alex van Warmerdam

Born in Haarlem, Holland, in 1952 he studied Graphic Arts at the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and was a founding member of the musical theater group Hauser Orkater. After leaving the group, he created, with his brother, the De Mexicaanse Hond Company, with which he’s put together thirteen plays since 1980. He has received several awards for his dramatic and literary career, and has also developed a filmography as a director that includes titles like Abel (1986), The Northerners (1992), De jurk (1996), Grimm (2003) or The Last Days of Emma Blank (2010), often expanding on questions related to sex and violence, always from the perspective of black humor and the absurd.
