In film and television, Zosia Mamet is quickly establishing herself as one of the industry's most exciting new talents. In the spring of 2012, Mamet starred in the Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award winning HBO series Girls. Created by and starring Lena Dunham, the series critically acclaimed for taking a comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their early 20s. Dunham, Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner executive produce the show, which HBO renewed for its fourth season, premiered on January 11, 2015. In the role of 'Shoshanna,' she aspires to the Sex and the City lifestyle. She's a graduate of NYU obsessed with women's issues, gluten-free foods and sexcentric self-help. The show also stars Allison Williams and Jemima Kirke.
In February 2013, Mamet made her stage debut, playing opposite Matt Lauria in Paul Downs Colaizzo's critically acclaimed Off-Broadway play Really Really. Directed by David Cromer, Mamet plays Leigh, an untrustworthy and manipulative college student. In the aftermath of a wild night of partying, the bonds of friendship are tested and politics come into play. The play continued its run until March 30, 2013. Mamet starred in the dark comedy Cooler, along with Jim Parsons, Sung Kang and Harold Perrineau that screened at the 2012 South by Southwest Festival. The story centers around a high-strung and overly meticulous nurse who must return to Los Angeles to retrieve bone marrow for a transplant.
In 2012, Mamet starred in Rhymes with Banana directed by Joseph Muszynski and Peter Hutchings. The independent film is a satirical comedy about two struggling young actresses (Mamet and Jee Young Han) with big dreams, who are coping with rejection and mediocre prospects. In 2010, Mamet appeared in in the Academy Award nominated film The Kids Are All Right opposite Mia Wasikowska, Annette Bening, Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo. The Lisa Cholodenko film was also recognized with an Independent Spirit Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Film. In the Focus Features film, Mamet portrayed the best friend to Wasikowska's title character.
Mamet's other film credits include Spartan which was written and directed by David Mamet, and stars Val Kilmer, Derek Luke and William H. Macy; she appeared in Focus Features relationship dramedy, Greenberg, directed by Noah Baumbach and starring Ben Stiller; and in The Last Keepers with Aidan Quinn and Virginia Madsen. Mamet's television credits include high-profile supporting roles, most notably as a lesbian secretary ('Joyce Ramsay') in Season 4 of Mad Men; as 'Courtney' in Showtime's hit series United States of Tara written by Academy Award winner Diablo Cody; and as 'Kelsey' on NBC's hit show Parenthood, which is based on the 1989 film of the same title; and The Unit from director David Mamet.
Mamet also lends her voice to the Fox animated series High School USA! Written and created by Dino Stamatopoulos, the animated series is a parody of Archie Comics. Mamet voices the ditzy blonde high school student Amber Lamber. Mamet stars in Bleeding Heart alongside Jessica Biel. Biel and Mamet play long-lost sisters in the indie thriller from writer and director Diane Bell. Jonathan Schwartz and Andrea Sperling produced the film through their Super Crispy banner. Mamet also appeared in Eric Weber's Outliving Emily with Thomas Mann and Olympia Dukakis. The indie film is based on Weber's shortstory about the tumultuous marriage of a couple, Tim and Emily Hanratty, over half a century. The film, comprised of six vignettes, is portrayed by twelve different actors that also stars Alexis Bledel and Phylicia Rashad.
Mamet completed production on Steven Bernstein's Dominion. Set in the 1950s, the film centers on the final days of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. The indie drama stars John Malkovich, Rhys Ifans and Rodrigo Santoro. Mamet wrapped indie film Goldbricks in Bloom by writer and director Danny Sangra. The film follows a young group of creatives in New York that question the value of their work and lives.
Originally from Randolph, Vermont, Mamet is the daughter of David Mamet and Lindsay Crouse. Mamet's maternal grandfather was Russel Crouse, who co-wrote such classic American musicals as Anything Goes and The Sound of Music. She currently resides in New York City.
