Stephan Komandarev

Bulgarian director, scriptwriter and producer, member of the European Film Academy. Born in 1966 in Sofia. He graduated in medicine in 1993, and worked as a child psychiatrist. In 1998 he graduated from the New Bulgarian University as a film director. He founded a production company, Argo. In 2000 he made his first feature film, Dogs' Home (WFF 2001). His subsequent features, The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner (WFF 2008 – Special Jury Award) and "The Judgment" (WFF 2014) were both Bulgarian candidates for the Academy Award for best foreign film. In 2009 he was invited to the Warsaw Film Festival as a jury member.
