Biografie

Born in Tbilisi. In 1974 she entered the Tbilisi State Institute of Theatre and Film at the Faculty of Film Directing. Since 1985, she worked there as the head master of the directing workshop. Making films since 1977. In 1987, she shot her first feature film Robinsonada, or My English Grandfather and was awarded with the "Golden Camera" at the Cannes Film Festival for best debut. In 1990 she became head of a directing workshop at the Russian State Institute of Film (VGIK). Since 1994 she is a member of the European Film Academy.
