Biografie
Ari Folman (b. 1962, Haifa, Israel) is one of Israel’s most distinctive and most highly awarded directors. After completing his military service in the mid-1980s, he went off on his travels. After his return he studied film, debuting with the feature-length documentary Comfortably Numb (1991). He continues to film television documentaries and series. His debut feature Saint Clara (Clara Hakadusha, 1995), based on the novel by Pavel Kohout, won the Special Jury Prize at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. This was followed by Made in Israel (2001) and Waltz with Bashir (2008), which was a great success when it was shown in competition at Cannes. In 2008, Folman was also a member of the Grand Jury in Karlovy Vary.
