Maurice Pialat

Maurice Pialat (1925-2003) was a French screenwriter and director. He studied applied arts, then made a number of short films. He successfully debuted with the feature film Naked Childhood (L'Enfance nue, 1968). He established himself with the dramas We Won't Grow Old Together (Nous ne vieillirons pas ensemble, 1972) and The Mouth Agape (La Gueule ouverte, 1974). He later won prestigious festival awards for the films For Our Loves (À nos amours, 1984), Under the Sun of Satan (Sous le soleil de Satan, 1987) and Van Gogh (1992).
