House of Cards - Hoofdstuk 58 (2017) (aflevering)

Engels Claire Underwood achieved her goal (at least for now), and I particularly enjoyed the humorous development of Will Conway's character — nothing beats a balanced psyche. On the downside, it felt like some important matters were put off, and I had to sit through a few filler scenes.

Engels I feel like I’m on a rollercoaster. Last episode had me on a high, but this one took a dive, and I’m giving it four stars mostly out of loyalty. The story’s pace really slowed down, and aside from a great opening, there wasn’t much to get excited about. Doug Stamper is back under the scrutiny of journalists, but we’ve seen that before, and this recycling is starting to annoy me. 4*-

Engels When it seemed like the game was lost, Frank introduced a new piece on the chessboard, and things immediately heated up. This episode was highly entertaining, showcasing the old Francis Underwood in all his glory, with his grandiose plans at the end being simply perfect.

Engels I was really looking forward to the fifth season, but now I’m a bit disappointed. The intrigue and manipulation are in full swing as usual, but I can't give it five stars. It feels like the series is missing that "something extra" that I found in the previous seasons.

Doc Martin - Preserve the Romance (2011) (aflevering)

Engels The season didn't start off badly, but it didn't exactly blow me away either. I'll chalk up the first episode to the typical series opener and hope things pick up. Honestly, most of the situations annoyed me rather than entertained me. I'm starting to wonder if this little town will be enough for the fifth season — it's beginning to give me claustrophobia.

Engels The pace was a bit slower, likely setting the stage for new political schemes. Still, I was thoroughly entertained by the president-sanctioned "hacker" attack and all its consequences. The manipulation was masterful, and the pumpkins at the end really got me.

Engels I really missed Francis and Claire Underwood, and they hooked me immediately upon their return. This season looks like it's going to be another great one. The election campaign is in full swing, and the intrigue and manipulation are at their peak. Claire and Frank once again proved they are masters of chilling finales.

The Good Doctor (2017) (serie)

Engels When I started watching the series, I was secretly hoping that this medical show would come up with something original, but it didn't. The character of Shaun Murphy was interesting and the flashbacks into his childhood were initially quite entertaining. It's just that the creators used these flashbacks so often that I got tired of them by the third episode. I wasn't too happy with the rest of the cast, either. There were way too many beautiful soap opera faces for me to take. I think what hurt the series the most was the wasted potential of the main character and the melodrama. At the end of the day, it was just another easy watch for a weekday afternoon. Dr. House has a Vicodin addiction, Dr. Murphy is autistic, otherwise, the two shows are pretty much the same.

The Good Doctor - More (2018) (aflevering)

Engels Well, I originally thought it was a stroke. Once again, they made full use of Shaun Murphy's character — I loved his obsession with the tumor, and his search for the scalpel had me in stitches. It's a pity they included scenes meant to be touching, as they unnecessarily spoiled the overall impression.

The Good Doctor - Smile (2018) (aflevering)

Engels A significant improvement over the last episode. The girl without a smile was perfect ("I'm laughing on the inside."). The creators clearly remembered Shaun, who was quite sidelined in the previous episode, and I enjoyed the nice callback to episode six.
