Besa - Episode 10 (2021) (aflevering)

Engels The finale of the second season promised to be a strong one, and boy, did it deliver. I felt like a victim of theft or fraud as the closing credits rolled. Episode ten built up an incredible, almost depressive atmosphere. It was filled with tension, intricate plotting that kept me on the edge of my seat... and just when everything seemed to be hitting its peak, the season ended. The Serbs really know how to play with the audience's emotions, that's for sure. / Lesson learned: What goes around, comes around in the Balkans...

Furies - Ik werk voor haar (2024) (aflevering)

Engels Not half bad for a start, but I must say, the series is seriously lacking a Comedy genre tag. I found myself chuckling quite a bit, and I'm not saying this to poke fun at the writers. It genuinely struck me as funny, and I had a blast watching it. However, it's not quite at the level of earning my fourth star (if it even gets there). / Lesson learned: Reading is key to survival.

Besa - Episode 9 (2021) (aflevering)

Engels The episode served as a classic setup for the big finale, but it was anything but typical. Unlike the usual setup episodes that tend to drag, this one kept me engaged with its intriguing plot and stimulating dialogue. I'm holding onto hope that the series will deliver a satisfying conclusion, as I've been let down before by other shows. All that's left now is to wait, as Ernö Rubik has already cast the die and crossed the river. / Lesson learned: Brace yourself for carnage. For the locals, it's going to be another Balkan day, just like any other.

6ixtynin9: The Series (2023) (serie)

Engels Initially, it didn't seem promising, but it surprised me how much it improved as it progressed. Toom, the main character, didn't really click with me at first; she seemed like a walking advertisement for starvation. However, she grew on me, revealing herself as a woman whose mere presence can be detrimental to your well-being. At times, it felt like the creators were poking fun at both the viewers and their own creation, and surprisingly, I found myself riding that wave and not regretting the time invested in the series. By the way, the ferrymen were a real standout. / Lesson learned: A vacation in Thailand? I'll pass, thanks.

6ixtynin9: The Series - Episode 6 (2023) (aflevering)

Engels The finale was a much-needed improvement over the previous less-than-convincing episode. All the plot lines found satisfying conclusions, leaving me feeling quite content. I'm sure Toom must have felt a bit like Sisyphus when returning home from Fon :-D / Lesson learned: When caught in a shootout, best to press yourself to the floor and blend in with the pavement.

6ixtynin9: The Series - Episode 5 (2023) (aflevering)

Engels The previous episode left me pleasantly surprised, so I had hoped to ride that same wave until the end. However, this time, the plot seemed to doze off again, and I found myself getting bored at times. To be fair, I enjoyed some moments (like the scene with the moving), but in the grand scheme, it wasn't enough to earn this episode a better rating. / Lesson learned: Don't try to mock a policeman by not lying.

6ixtynin9: The Series - Episode 4 (2023) (aflevering)

Engels Finally got my bearings: the Thai creators clearly don't take themselves too seriously, so why should I? Well, if I'm not taking what I just watched seriously, then there's no reason not to give it a four out of five. The episode delivered pure bizarre (in a good sense), the kind you can really only expect from Asia, and surprisingly, I enjoyed every moment of it. / Lesson learned: Women may claim to be less violent than men, and I believe them, but in this episode, there were just too many girlfriends (read: crazy psychopaths) with "creative" ideas for those forty minutes.

6ixtynin9: The Series - Episode 3 (2023) (aflevering)

Engels What can I say? Things are getting intense, and the sales of a particular type of rattan goods must be skyrocketing. This time around, the Thai creators entertained me so much that it almost deserved a solid four out of five. Who would've thought after the pilot episode? Certainly not me. I couldn't help but occasionally think of my favorite losers, Tucker and Dale, because the plot kept nudging me in that direction. Even the slowed-down Toom fit perfectly into the story. If it keeps up like this, I might just give the sixth episode five stars. / Lesson learned: If you put coffee in your sugar, you're heading for trouble. 3*+

6ixtynin9: The Series - Episode 2 (2023) (aflevering)

Engels The second episode felt a bit more enjoyable and, above all, clearer. Sure, the story isn't a masterpiece, but the creators managed to partially compensate for its many shortcomings with occasional bizarre moments. The elusive spirit of Toom made only sporadic appearances here, and the pacing didn't bother me as much. / Lesson learned: In regions with high humidity and temperatures, it's best not to leave bodies lying around outside the freezer. 3*-

Besa - Episode 8 (2021) (aflevering)

Engels The pisode proved to be another instance where the addition of action scenes wasn't really necessary (though they were there). It was all about the atmosphere, deep contemplations, and decisions. The creators have yet again underscored the idea that in a world of deception, the morally upright are a rare breed. With crooked cops and shady prosecutors, you can only trust the villain, because you can expect them to stab you in the back. / Lesson learned: Don't be a fool, remember Todor.
