Derry Girls - The Affair (2022) (aflevering)

Engels The second episode was even better than the first one. All the characters owned the screen space, and I swear, and gave me many a chuckle. Even the supporting characters did an excellent job of keeping me entertained. / Lesson learned: Don't give in to temptation. At least not too often.

Derry Girls - The Night Before (2022) (aflevering)

Engels I had to give this episode five stars because I'd missed the girls like crazy. The plot was hilarious. After the hiatus, it hit me again that humor isn't just about the main crew; the supporting characters, like Sister Michael, Gerry, and Joe, bring the laughs, too. It's awesome having them all back. / Lesson learned: Work might better you, but it can also drag you into some sticky situations.

Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet - Season 2 (2021) (Seizoen)

Engels I’m rating Season 2 the same as Season 1, but I’m actually slightly more satisfied with it. The show seems to have gradually gotten over its childhood diseases. The creators have shown that they are no strangers to humor or quality drama. I personally like that they are not afraid to poke fun at political correctness which I’ve come to hate with a passion. I’m greatly satisfied, and I’m looking forward to the next season. / Lesson learned: Follow your vision.

Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet - TBD (2021) (aflevering)

Engels The finale of the second season came a bit too soon for me, as I was thoroughly enjoying this series. The last episode had me cracking up, throwing in a more serious vibe. The way the storyline unfolded surprised me, leaving me curious about what the third season has in store and who will be part of it. I'll wait and see, and I won't be skipping it for sure. / Lesson learned:  Even harmony can lead to destruction.

Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet - Juice Box (2021) (aflevering)

Engels After a hiatus, the creators brought the action back to the forefront, sprinkled in their humor, and delivered some solid entertainment (with a few ups and downs). The presentation for Montreal took the lead, followed by the corporate shark, yet even then, it was clear that the creators were steering towards a more serious tone. Oddly enough, it doesn't bother me with this series.

The Princess (2022)

Engels Yikes, what a disaster. I like women and I think they should really take a stand against making films like this one. How could a woman convince a jury that a man had raped her or domestically abused her, when it will be scientifically proven on the basis of such films that a 100-pound woman can hit a man twice her size so hard that he goes into rotation on a horizontal axis? Anyway, back to the film. The story was pathetically simple and reminded me of old video games in which the player descends floor after floor into some kind of a dungeon, fights troops of enemies, and has to defeat a particularly nasty boss in the end so that he can finally have something to eat and take care of basic hygiene. The plot of this film was pretty much the same. I never enjoyed looking over someone’s shoulder as they were playing, which is why I wasn’t all that thrilled about this film either. The main character was....ummm, how shall I put this....not exactly gorgeous (or pretty), and the occasional attempts at jokes were clumsy at best. The only thing left to rely on was the anticipated bloodshed. Well, here's where I ran into another problem. The fight choreography wasn't good, Joey King was really bad at it, and the CGI... The burning tin man was a bad joke. Well, not him, but the fire. Even a fantasy world should follow a certain logic, which it often didn’t. What can I tell you, I wasn't happy, and the crappy version of Billy Idol's hit just topped it all off. / Lesson learned: So you want to live in a tower? Choose one with an elevator.

The Stylist (2020)

Engels The biggest positive of this film was Najarra Townsend who was extremely convincing and perfect for the role of Claire. The premise was also a good choice, and it could have been a thrilling film.... if only it didn’t lack tension. I was confused. I spent most of the film expecting it to be a thrilling and nerve-racking experience. It took me quite long to realize that this wasn't actually a horror film but just a grittier drama. That would still have been fine, but I found myself slightly bored during the longer, dull scenes. What got me wondering right at the beginning was where the body had gone. The film did have potential, it was just wasted a little. / Lesson learned: You’d better not go to the hairdresser unescorted.

Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet - Peter (2021) (aflevering)

Engels The seventh episode hit me out of left field, much like the one before it. Mythic Quest, to me, is all about the comedic peek into the development of an online game I'd totally be down to play myself. However, the last two episodes threw in a lot more drama that felt only loosely tied to the series. Generally, I'm not a fan of such shifts, but the storyline about the ex-drug addict, womanizer and drunk was surprisingly intriguing for me. / Lesson learned: Revenge is a dish best served cold. Just make sure you've got the time to savor it.

Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet - Backstory! (2021) (aflevering)

Engels I've been griping about the shortage of humor in many sitcoms, which I find hard to understand. The sixth episode of MQ didn't do much to tickle my funny bone; however, I'm not here to whine about it. The creators dished out a drama so thick you could practically skim cream off it, especially with C. W. Longbottom's story, and I've got to say, they really knocked it out of the park. / Lesson learned: Be assertive.

Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet - Please Sign Here (2021) (aflevering)

Engels The fifth episode was hilarious, especially with my favorite, super-frustrated character stealing the spotlight. The storyline wasn't mind-blowing, but despite that, I had a blast and couldn't help but fondly recall the good times we had back when I had to put my team through similar tests. There weren't any animals in them, though. / Lesson learned: Nowhere else will you witness a fight between a mouse and a shark.
