Assault on Precinct 13 (2005)
A typical action film, the kind there are loads of, that never deviates from many of its predecessors. There is tension, and action, too, and also the traditional “surprising” twist. But it’s watchable in spite of its lack of originality.
Death Proof (2007)
Personally, it was a big disappointment. It looks exactly as it should, but the story (story?) is so boring. The final car chase improves things a little, without it, it would be only 2*.
Planet Terror (2007)
Awesome, but only few people will enjoy it. Nasty, perverted, disgusting, just as it should be. In terms of entertainment, Rodriguez kicked Tarantino’s ass.
House on Haunted Hill (1999)
Oh, that was another waste of time. Unlikeable characters led by an eccentric millionaire whom I would love to kill with my own hands, a confusing and illogical plot and a final surprise in the form of a CGI monster that ruined it completely. A lot more could have been done with that house. It’s a shame.
Return to House on Haunted Hill (2007)
It’s a little bit better than the first one. The more believable reason for the presence of the protagonists in the house, the characters being less unlikeable and the fact that there’s no computer generated monstrosity at the end pulled it to 3*.
Deep Rising (1998)
I like this film a lot. It’s the ultimate B-movie, but a lot of fun. My favourite part is when they flee from the unfolding tentacle. It’s a pity that they show the monster in full by the end, it isn’t too good. It’s very predictable (I don’t mind it in this case), but it did manage to surprise me once, at the end on the island. Brilliant!
Sahara (2005)
I watched it a couple of months ago and the only thing I remember is that it was quite long and quite boring. There are many better adventure films than Sahara.
Pitch Black (2000)
To be honest, Pitch Black didn’t captivate me much. It was fun only in the last 20 minutes and I didn’t like the monster. The script is derivative and the only thing that saves the film is Vin Diesel, who’s really cool.
Mousehunt (1997)
A classic of my youth :-D :-)
Deep Impact (1998)
I don’t like this film and I don’t know exactly why. It’s terribly boring. By the way, have you noticed that when a film features an American president they are either a hero, a black man or a woman?
