Extortion (2017)

Engels At first impression, this film seems quite unattractive, but after half an hour it nails you to your chair and lures you into a very suspenseful survival crime drama, which reminded me of The Fugitive with Harrison Ford. The decent script provides a good dose of twists and turns, convincing performances, a realistic premise, plenty of suspense, and the sense of hopelessness where the main character's whole life is turned upside down in one night is shocking. A very good film 80%

Gongjo (2017)

Engels After a long time a decent action ride from Korea led by the so far unnoticed action star Bin Hyeon!! The plot isn't too complicated, it's a revenge film and a buddy comedy at the same time, which is a nice change of pace. Visually very decent, the action is great, especially the fights make you remember why I started watching South Korean movies in the first place. I liked the music and I laughed a few times, so I am pleasantly surprised, I didn't expect it. More action movies with Bin Hyeon, I really liked his badass look and talent in fights! 75%

Quan min mu ji (2013)

Engels A solid courtroom thriller from China. Playfully and engagingly shot with an intelligent script, clever direction and an unusual narrative style. The case seems absolutely obvious at first, but thanks to the twists and turns you have no idea who is really guilty until the last second and believe it or not, the reveal is more than surprising, Suspenseful, entertaining, fresh, intelligent and well acted. I recommend it. 80%.

Een man die Ove heet (2015)

Engels Quite an overrated film that, although has some moral lessons, for my taste didn't quite hit the mark. The stubborn grumpy grandpa in the lead role disgusted with life and fed up with people was great and there were some funny situations, but overall my entertainment index stopped somewhere around 65%. Interesting piece of work anyway.

Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)

Engels That hurt. Transformers is really going downhill and it's one of the few franchises I've become sick of and I wish they wouldn't make another film. The two and a half hours drag on like a brick wall, Anthony Hopkins is annoying, the kids are uninteresting, the story is very flat, I have no idea what the hell was going on, the script is a mess, it's like the studio was scrapping and slapping in everything they could think of. There isn't that much action, and you watch the finale with an annoyed aftertaste and a sore ass. The only good thing is the opening battle with King Arthur, which had a hell of a lot of balls, and I really hope Michael Bay takes a break from the robots and serves us a proper medieval battle instead, where I believe he'd rip everyone's balls off. Unfortunately I didn't have much fun either, at least Isabel Moner was nice to look at. 45%

Ahsoora (2016)

Engels Asura: The City of Madness was one of my most anticipated Korean pieces of this year, no wonder such a stellar cast is rarely seen and the foreign reviews whispering about the grittiest story of 2017 were more than tempting, but in the end I have quite mixed feelings. It’s very well directed, no doubt about it, but the story didn't draw me in that much; the plot didn't appeal to me enough to make me go nuts and there’s too little action for my taste – though once it gets going it's very good. The finale in particular builds up to a decent climax and once the guys run into the house with axes the fun is taken care of, yet I wouldn't proclaim it the most brutal film of the year (Headshot was a level above). Woo-seong Jeong is once again flawless. I'll give it a weaker four stars for the segments I liked, but I won't dive into the film again. 70 %

Babysitting 2 (2015)

Engels A superb comedy that tore my guts out like nothing I've seen in a long time. Actually, I didn't expect much, but the French humour is flawless, sincere and very sarcastic, very close to my taste. The film takes place in an attractive setting, there are classy ladies, the situational humour is literally fucking hilarious and I not only cried with laughter but also screamed across the house at least five times. How many crazy situations the French can come up with in an hour and a half is worthy of respect. Grandma and the cannibal was the best. 85%.

Le Premier Jour du reste de ta vie (2008)

Engels I was curious to see this acclaimed French film, which I negligently overlooked, but in the end I'm inclined to be disappointed because it didn't grow on me. The idea and the way the story is told are definitely worth mentioning, unfortunately the humour is minimal, emotionally the film left me absolutely cold, the characters came across as uninteresting and nothing worth mentioning happened in the space of two hours. Actually quite a waste of time. Over-hyped to the point of woe. 55%

Two Night Stand (2014)

Engels Average romantic comedy with average actors. The humour is practically non-existent which is a significant downside for me. The film is watchable, but there are better pieces. 60%

Young People Fucking (2007)

Engels Four couples, one wild night and lots of sex from a different angle each time. Well, why not? Original idea, pretty women, decent humour and above all good fun. I had a good time. It's surprising how much the film has in common with reality. 75%.
