Jackie Brown (Pam Grier) is een stewardess die haar schamele inkomen probeert aan te zuiveren door zwart geld het land in te smokkelen voor wapenhandelaar Ordell. Wanneer Jackie op het vliegveld wordt aangehouden door de FBI hangt haar een forse gevangenisstraf boven het hoofd. Tenzij ze bereid is de politie te helpen om Ordell achter de tralies te krijgen. Samen met sympathieke Max smeedt Jackie een roekeloos plan. Daarbij wil ze de politie en Ordell tegen elkaar uitspelen om zelf met een half miljoen dollar aan de haal te gaan.
