De ochtend van "The Fight of the Century" zitten Joe Domino en Hank Goody, de organisatoren van het nevenevent, met de handen in het haar: voor 6 uur 's avonds moeten ze twee boksers vinden en in Las Vegas krijgen. Uiteindelijk komt Domino in een gymclub in LA bij de oudere boksers Vince en Cesar terecht. Ze sluiten een deal: er ligt voor elk 50.000 dollar klaar en een sportief extraatje voor de winnaar, indien ze tijdig in Las Vegas geraken. Er is echter één detail dat Vince en Cesar verzwijgen voor Domino: ze hebben beiden een ongelofelijke vliegangst. Ze roepen dan maar de hulp van Grace in, Cesars vriendinnetje en Vince's ex, om hen in haar Oldsmobiel 442 convertible uit 1972 naar Las Vegas te voeren. (Independent Films)

Play It to the Bone is a would-be psychological road movie about two complex-ridden boxers travelling across America on their way to a big fight. Along the way, they attempt to resolve each other’s long-hidden personal problems. Due to their inability to communicate openly, they fail to do so and end up “solving” everything in the ring, with boxing gloves on. This is a terrible film with terrible characters that only a bored social worker could care about.
