Engels An excellent horror anthology that is one of the best I've had the chance to see this year. The stories are set in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s and the old-school atmosphere is unrivalled. The story focuses on a creepy old guy who owns a mortuary. He is approached by a pretty blonde applying for a job as an assistant, and they up telling each other horror stories of dead people. The first story takes place in a bathroom, where a nice monster evoking The Thing is hiding. The second story is about a young chauvinist who gets severely punished for having sex without a condom – one of the kinkiest and most original ideas of recent years. The third story is about a man whose wife is very ill, becoming a nuisance. He would like to get rid of her, but not everything goes according to plan – black-humored and gritty. The fourth story is about a psychopathic serial killer of children who attacks a babysitter, who fights for her life. The closure of the story offers one unexpected twist. For me, a perfect affair where not a single segment feels extra. Each story is above average, superbly shot, atmospherically impressive and most importantly, no expense is spared with gore and practical effects, which of course fascinated me the most. Amazing stuff that I'll probably return to often. Story****, Action*** Humor**, Violence*****, Entertainment*****, Music****, Visuals****, Atmosphere*****, Suspense****. 9/10. ()

Engels Horror anthology with captivating art direction! Clancy Brown delivers a very charismatic old-school performance falling straight from the Angus Scrimm in Phantasm series. I liked the self-awareness of the characters continuously commenting on the stories being told and pointing out shortcomings and doubts that the movie-goer may have. At the same time, the stories are pleasingly intertwined with various fascinating details, and mainly they are consistent and equally interesting. The only thing is that the general story pulled me by the hair at the end and the final twist comes on way too strong, but it is nothing that undermines my overall positive impression of the whole movie, which is a very solid collection of horror tales.
