Nooran is een traditionele medicijnvrouw in een gemeenschap van zangers in Rajasthan. Volgens hun geloof wekt de dodelijke steek van de schorpioen een melodie op in het bloed van het slachtoffer en alleen een contramelodie van de zingende medicijnvrouw die tegen de bloedstroom van de patiënt in gaat, kan de stervende redden. Aadam, een kamelenhandelaar, gespeeld door Irrfan Khan, een van de meest veelzijdige Indiase acteurs, wordt hevig verliefd op de beeldschone schorpioenzangeres Nooran, gespeeld door de bekoorlijke Iraanse actrice Golshifteh Farahani.
