Recensie van Necrotongue voor deze serie (7)

Waco (2018)

Engels The series as a whole is excellent with great acting performances. I had the advantage of being completely impartial and didn’t have to worry about taking sides. If there’s anyone I hate as much as the Big Brother, it’s all kinds of religious fanatics. Although the creators tried to approach the whole affair from both points of view, it seemed to me that they treated David Koresh somewhat benevolently. After all, he wasn’t just a harmless hippie but a major scumbag. ()

Visions and Omens (2018) (E01)

Engels Even though it was the pilot episode, there was no slow start, which I had expected. The action against Weaver delivered a solid dose of quality excitement, while David Koresh provided a mix of theological and philosophical musings. I didn't expect to find myself so entertained by a drama, but the world's worst sniper had me in stitches, and David's selfless dedication to all the repulsive and unhygienic sex to save everyone else was just hilarious. The Strangers Across the Street (2018) (E02)

Engels I'm still pleasantly surprised. I never expected Michael Shannon to play the most reasonable and positive character, given that I'm used to seeing him in much darker roles. With the way things are shaping up, I'm anticipating a lot of action in the next episode. ()

Operation Showtime (2018) (E03)

Engels The third episode really picked up the pace, and there wasn't a dull moment to be found. The clash between misguided theology and the world's true democracy played out just as I expected. Even though I can't stand religious fanatics, I found myself rooting for some of the misguided folks against the government aggression, which threw me off — something that rarely happens. That's why this gets five stars from me. ()

Of Milk and Men (2018) (E04)

Engels The action from the previous episode practically disappeared, but surprisingly, I didn't mind at all. I enjoyed watching the attempts to find a way to communicate between the two sides of the conflict, each living in a different world. While the Branch Davidians were in a spiritual state of limbo, the FBI remained firmly grounded — and understandably so, as tanks don't easily lift into the spiritual realm. ()

Stalling for Time (2018) (E05)

Engels Quite similar to the previous episode. Gary Noesner kept trying to achieve the impossible — getting both sides to understand each other. If I mentioned feeling some sympathy for certain cult members in my review of the third episode, I can now comfortably say that feeling has passed. ()

Day 51 (2018) (E06)

Engels The already compelling story was elevated by some well-executed action scenes. Even though I knew how it would end, the final episode didn’t disappoint. The details were intense. I appreciated that David Koresh went out like a true leader — just needed a bunker to complete the image. ()
