Golden Orchestra! conveys the message that it is never too late to make your dreams reality and that elderly people want their place in the sun too –perhaps as players in a small chamber orchestra. When the old conductor dies, young math teacher Chizuru (played by Anne Watanabe, the daughter of the famous actor Watanabe Ken) takes over the baton, but conducting the old folks is not always easy. The sprightly comedy touches on the sensitive relationships between young and old people and viewers will love its light tone, honesty, unusual generation clashes and sharp wit. Musical performances in the film are quite often out of tune, so viewers are advised to block their ears if need be when watching. The film is based on a novella of the same name written by Araki Gen. (Eiga-sai)
