Karla McCoy (Halle Barry) besluit de middag met haar zoontje Frankie (Sage Correa) in een speeltuin door te brengen. Wat een leuk uitje had moeten worden, loopt echter uit op een levensgevaarlijk kat en muis spel. Als Karla haar zoontje even uit het oog verliest, wordt Frankie op brutale wijze ontvoerd. Karla ziet nog net dat hij een auto in wordt gesleurd, maar kan de ontvoerders niet meer stoppen. Ze neemt het heft in eigen handen en gaat tot het absolute uiterste om haar zoontje terug te krijgen. Kidnap serves up a wonderful dose of non-stop suspense and fresh situations, unfortunately undermined by pathetic
one-liners that are unworthy of this otherwise excellent thriller. Despite that, I’m giving it a fourth star for the highoctane
ride and flawless Halle Berry.

An average silly thriller with an angry and determined Halle Berry. Fortunately, the film has a decent pace, sleazy bad guys and entertains nicely for 90 minutes, so as an unpretentious flick on a dull evening Kidnap holds up just fine, but it could have been better. The Call was twice as good. 60%

I thought I was in for a suspenseful thriller, but instead I got a weird commercial for an armored Chrysler and the US Highway System. I didn't enjoy the chase much as it was too long and interspersed with emotionally strained monologues addressed to God (absent) and the son (also absent). The writing felt uninspired and rather predictable, and the ending was downright dumb.

Halle Berry simply nailed this film about a mother saving her abducted son. She is excellent, believable, and not annoying. Furthermore, the film has that proper hill billy vibe, so you won't be sure how it will end and what it's really about. For me, "Kidnap" is a slightly above-average thriller.
