Duik onder in de wereld van elektronische muziek en het nachtleven van Hollywood, de scene van de 23-jarige Cole. Overdag hangt hij met zijn jeugdvrienden maar ’s avonds werkt hij aan die ene track die de wereld zal veroveren. Alles verandert als hij bevriend raakt met de coole James, een gevestigde DJ die hem onder zijn hoede neemt. Een nieuwe kans, maar dan ontmoet hij James' jonge vriendin; de bloedmooie Sophie. Cole valt als een blok voor haar. Terwijl hun verboden liefde opbloeit dreigt hij alleen wel belangrijke vrienden te verliezen. Cole moet kiezen tussen liefde, loyaliteit en zijn eigen carrière. I was waiting a long time for this film. Watching a film from the DJing world is always an interesting experience and you don’t encounter one that often. Zac Efron played a young and promising DJ, and I was curious how he was gonna pull everything off. In the end he was the only one who was somehow normal. Him and an experienced producer and DJ, who suffered a lot from time and fame, who decided to train him. The music in the movie is not that interesting and that I think is the biggest failure. It does not benefit from originality, but rather from the current big-room house, which has only one purpose – destroying the crowds in a club – and that is something I don’t really understand. While there are a few interesting musical pieces in the movie, it is nothing special. It is all made up for by the finale, which is obviously heart-felt, but nobody would really publish Zac’s piece. Rather, the track carries the spirit of the moment and the fact that during the one and a half hour I got to know his friends, and the piece is also about them. Nevertheless, the finale and the experienced DJ are the only really interesting parts of the movie. The finale is at least a bit original and under the load of money, drugs and booze, the experienced DJ is often right. Even if it hurts sometimes.

I guess I'm too old for this or something, but I just didn't like this movie. Zac Efron is fine, I'm quite fond of him. I don't find Emily enjoyable at all, and as an actress, she does nothing for me. She’s just there for guys to stare at her. The music doesn't speak to me at all, so I guess I'm not the target audience, but this film just didn't say anything to me. Repetitive, boring, seen it all before.
