Recensie van Necrotongue voor deze serie (118)

Bad Beat (2017) (S05E05)

Engels The quality took a slight dip after Halloween, but I was expecting it. Thankfully, the humor was still top-notch, thanks to two constants for me: Captain Holt and Rosa. It's always amusing to see a flaw in Captain's character, and Rosa always tackles challenges head-on... Figuratively speaking. // "That imbecile in the trucker hat hit both his runners and sucked out on the river." ()

The Venue (2017) (S05E06)

Engels Well, just when I was having a good time with this show, the sixth episode hit me like a ton of bricks. It was a harsh reality check, focusing mainly on the wedding. And to top it off, they brought back a character that definitely shouldn't have returned. // "This might not be the right time, but talking about yourself in the third person has finally..." "Terry knows!" ()

Two Turkeys (2017) (S05E07)

Engels I was pleasantly surprised. The creators turned the tables on us; Thanksgiving with both families was a delight, and the rival fathers stole the show. // "Well, that was a lovely series of toasts, Now who can I interest in 12 cups of coffee?" ()

Return to Skyfire (2017) (S05E08)

Engels The eighth episode wasn't quite as disappointing as the sixth, but it came close. I wasn't thrilled about the creators revisiting writer Parlov, and the forensic science lecture could've been more engaging. However, Rosa continues to shine, showing another layer beneath her tough exterior. // "All you need are welding goggles." "Damn it. I have welding goggles in the car." ()

99 (2017) (S05E09)

Engels The flight to New York had sort of a road movie vibe, and it turned out to be quite fun. You'd think Jake's Die Hard references would get old by now, but they still hit the mark. Two key takeaways from this episode: luxury travel is possible even in an old RV, and beware of cheese puffs! // "Charles, a man has died. Read the room!" / "You know what, Captain, I think you're right. I do smell smoke." ()

Game Night (2017) (S05E10)

Engels Well, here we go again. Another comedy series, another obligatory LGBT episode, complete with endless discussions about global issues. I'm giving this one just two stars out of frustration, even though Gina's presence was a highlight for me. // "I'm not a blackmailer. If you tell anyone I am, I will release your secrets." ()

The Favor (2017) (S05E11)

Engels I'm just not vibing with the fifth season as much as the ones before it. The Murphy family's weakest link didn't quite do it for me, especially compared to the showdown between Amy and the bureaucrats. At least there wasn't any poetry involved this time — thankfully! Here's hoping the next episodes get back on track. // "Top of the mornin' to you." "Oh, no. What's wrong?" ()

Safe House (2018) (S05E12)

Engels After feeling somewhat let down by the previous episodes, finally one that cracked me up. The whole concept of protecting endangered Kevin was a stroke of genius from the creators. // "Con Air. What have I become?" ()

The Negotiation (2018) (S05E13)

Engels Doug Judy has become a bit of a nuisance for me over time, and whenever the creators bring him into the mix, my rating takes a hit. I just don't find him enjoyable. Not even Charles' food truck or the member of the Commissioner selection committee could salvage the situation. The only thing that managed to get a laugh out of me was the attempt to make Hitchcock more human. // "You prayed for a hostage situation?" "Yes, I did. Every single day." ()

The Box (2018) (S05E14)

Engels Unlike the previous episode, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It's odd because it featured only two characters, and I typically prefer episodes that involve the whole team.// "Damn it! Not only did we not break him, but now I have to go to the dentist." ()

The Puzzle Master (2018) (S05E15)

Engels A pretty underwhelming episode. At times, it feels like the creators are lost, scrambling to fill the contracted twenty minutes with anything they can come up with.// "You can't wear a coat over a tank, You're not Ryan Gosling." ()

NutriBoom (2018) (S05E16)

Engels This episode brought back memories of my only (albeit intense) encounter with fanatical supporters of the company Amway. It still gives me the creeps. While this episode offered only a mild imitation of that experience, I gotta give it credit for that. // "It's everywheeere! There's pigeon everywheeere!!" / "Boom, boom!" ()

DFW (2018) (S05E17)

Engels This episode falls into the same category of filler. With twenty-two episodes in total, why waste time on a storyline, right? // "The only thing I'm not good at is modesty, because I'm great at it." / "Wish me luck. I'm about to be a brother!" ()

Gray Star Mutual (2018) (S05E18)

Engels Well, it seems we're on a downward slope here. Just like the previous episode, this one felt pretty pointless. // "Jake, I have a confession to make. The food truck is kind of stressing me out." ()

Bachelor/ette Party (2018) (S05E19)

Engels The best one of the last three episodes, which isn't saying a lot. There are many moments where cringiness overshadows the humor, which is a shame because I used to love this show. // "Oh, more meat and alcohol." "More?" "What does that mean?" "Uh... Nothing?" ()

Show Me Going (2018) (S05E20)

Engels Maybe it's just me and the top-notch humor is there but I just don't see it due to my worsening eyesight. Anyway, I wasn't impressed. // "I tried, but it didn't work." / "That's a grim commentary on the city we live in." ()

White Whale (2018) (S05E21)

Engels Once more, there was a slight uptick from the previous episode, but it still fell short of the ones I truly relished. If the finale fails to win me over, I might just call it quits on future seasons due to the overwhelming boredom. // "My groom gut is a fancy bitch." ()

Jake & Amy (2018) (S05E22)

Engels Surprisingly enough, the wedding episode managed to nudge my rating slightly above average, which I wouldn't have anticipated. There were several moments that genuinely made me laugh after a long dry spell, and it also served as a sweet, romantic farewell to the series. ()
