Het is 1988. Lance (Emile Hirsch) en Alvin (Paul Rudd) brengen de zomer door in de Californische bossen door, waar ze aan de weg werken. Lance, zo hyperactief en hitsig als je van een twintiger mag verwachten, verveelt zich. Lance, een serieuze dertiger, houdt juist van het isolement en de natuur. Bovendien, nu heeft hij eindelijk tijd voor zijn cursus Duits. Een confrontatie tussen de twee tegenpolen kan niet uitblijven en escaleert uiteindelijk op hilarische wijze. Maar misschien hebben Lance en Alvin wel meer gemeen dan ze aanvankelijk dachten. (Remain in Light)
