Liza is een jonge vrouw die naar Venetië afreist om daar haar Italiaanse vader Mauro te zien. Hij heeft zijn dochter sinds zij drie jaar oud was niet meer gezien, omdat hij toen van haar moeder scheidde. Sindsdien reist hij de wereld over als muzikant. Wanneer Liza in Venetië aankomt blijkt haar vader meer in petto te hebben dan alleen een verblijf in deze sfeervolle stad. Mauro neemt haar mee op een muzikale reis langs de Orient Express route, die zal eindigen in Istanbul. Vader en dochter blijken tijdens de reis meer overeenkomsten te hebben dan ze gedacht hadden en hun band wordt met elke kilometer die ze reizen sterker. Wanneer ze in Turkije aankomen, ontdekt Liza waarom haar vader na al die tijd contact met haar zocht. (Paradiso Films)

The Netherlands is a country with whose movies I tend to have problems. They can make really good movies, but they can also make really weird movies as well. This one offered an interesting road trip undertaken by a daughter with her father, whom she got to know only recently, and that was exactly why I’d been looking forward to this movie so much. What’s also interesting about this movie for instance is the fact that the literal translation of the title means “Meet Me in Venice”, but only about the first ten minutes of the movie actually take place in Venice. It then takes place in Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and eventually in Turkey. The only Dutch thing about this film is that the daughter speaks Dutch to the camera every now and then. So the only problem I had was with the actors, who I found very annoying at the beginning, but after a while I got used to them and the entire trip around the Balkans all of a sudden got a whole new dimension for me.
