Engels Thomas Vinterberg's film Submarino is a harsh social drama about two brothers who try to overcome childhood trauma on the outskirts of Copenhagen. Through its inner strength, this sophisticatedly shot and extremely emotional story reminds that the author is a co-creator of Dogma 95. However, he moves away from the austere manifesto with an intertwined general story, rich musical accompaniment and stylized visuals. The film is an emotionally devastating experience, which will fortunately find its way to Czech movie theatres and is the current peak of the Karlovy Vary Festival. [KVIFF 2010] ()

Engels When you once again indulge in self-pity, blame those around you for not understanding you, and assure yourself of how unlucky you are in life, watch Submarino. The childhood of two brothers is marked by a tragic event, and from then on, things go from bad to worse. Any attempt to move forward ends in an even bigger disaster, partly because the shortcuts seem tempting and the risks appear acceptable. Submarino is pessimistic, unsentimental, harshly distant, and unfriendly in a Nordic way. The prevailing feeling is one of abandonment and loss of life perspective. Overall impression: 75%. ()
