Recensie van Necrotongue voor deze serie (262)

Goodnight, Gracie (2013) (S04E24)

Engels It wasn't bad, but I was expecting a more clever ending to the fourth series. Nevertheless, I had a great time, so I guess I was just bothered a little by those few moments when it got a bit emotional. I know, it was a funeral, but still... This time, Mitchell and Gloria, and definitely Jay, who went back to his youth, impressed me the most. // "Quick and easy." "Yes, that's what her brothel was called!" / "So she sent more men to war than Lyndon Johnson." ()

Season 5 (2013) (S05)

Engels I was satisfied with Season 5. Unlike in Season 3, which was the weakest season (for me) so far, the humor was on quite a high level. The writers hadn't been slacking off, so the plot was actually entertaining. Sometimes a bit more, sometimes less, but you could have a laugh in every episode, and that's exactly what I expect from a sitcom. ()

Suddenly, Last Summer (2013) (S05E01)

Engels The commotion surrounding the legalization of gay weddings seemed more embarrassing than entertaining to me, and it almost cost the episode a star. Thanks to Phil, I ultimately deducted only half a star; his manipulation of the kids was absolutely perfect, it really got to me. I was also greatly amused by Jay and his Colombians, so it's a 5*- rating from me. "Because when you don't fly to Colombia, Colombia flies here. ...I've already experienced that." "Sometimes I don't know if I love how much I fear Claire, or if I fear how much I love her." ()

First Days (2013) (S05E02)

Engels The second episode of the fifth season was indeed a bit more concise, I didn't experience any disruptive moments and I didn't have any reason or desire to complain about anything, especially when Cameron once again managed to entertain me. I have never seen George Washington in the role of an American football coach until today. // "You can, but you won't betray, because you bring a tray of cookies to work." "Where are they now?" "I made an agreement." ()

Larry's Wife (2013) (S05E03)

Engels I was easily excited by Phil's performance in the first episode, but now I won't do it and due to Mitchell's strange contribution, but mainly for another one of Cameron's annoying escapades, the rating goes down. However, Phil's choice of a new client base was great, and I was also entertained by the poker events in the Dunphy's house. // "No, damn family, girls have a bountiful chest, but the devil kissed a man in the cradle." ()

Farm Strong (2013) (S05E04)

Engels Even this episode wasn't bad at all, I just didn't enjoy meeting Cameron's sister, I could have easily done without it. On the other hand, Gloria's fight against glasses, Phil's RoboCop, and Claires' "absence" during Luke's sports success really entertained me. // "Do you remember how we used to spend the whole Saturday without children?" "Well, thanks to that, we have them." ()

The Late Show (2013) (S05E05)

Engels The fifth episode hit the spot for me. The family dinner (or rather the preparation for the family dinner) was very enjoyable, and dissecting the reasons for each couple's delay was great. I can't help it, but I'm still most impressed by Ed O'Neill's acting performance; his Jay is the top character in the series for me. // "Luke, what did I tell you about rocking on the chair?" "I don't know? Stop?" / "Wow, that was pretty advanced." "Yeah, I've aged a lot during the time your mother dresses up." ()

The Help (2013) (S05E06)

Engels The sixth episode wasn't very convincing; unfortunately, the creators once again returned to the topic of Mitchell and Cameron's wedding, and to me, Pepper's crumbling just isn't enough for good entertainment. However, Lily, who clearly felt the same as I did, gets a point from me. 4* - // "I'm not only here for little Joe, I'm here for both of you." "This didn't help me." ()

A Fair to Remember (2013) (S05E07)

Engels Phil and Claire had their twentieth anniversary, and I liked how their children learned from previous mistakes. I enjoyed the trip, Manny's determined effort not to fit in with his peers, but what got to me the most was how an unremarkable pharmacist and the dramatic dying of a shirt can ruin a person's plans. // "No, no, nobody will vomit until I start singing." / "You have to tell my wife what happened. Tell her I had nothing to do with it." "You will tell her that yourself, she is standing over there looking angry." ()

ClosetCon '13 (2013) (S05E08)

Engels The SkříňoCon went well for the creators, Jay once again had enough space to make me laugh with his lines, and despite all the worries, I wasn't bored even on the Tucker farm. The second mission of Apollo 13 and the extremely dangerous P-51 Mustang made me laugh almost to tears, so I had no reason to complain. // "The lives of three good men depend on you." "We lost Florida." / "What if I tell you that the love of my life is this man standing here?" "I understand now why God sent that tornado upon us." ()

The Big Game (2013) (S05E09)

Engels I dreamt of being unbalanced this time. Phil's working day was perfect, Claire didn't entertain me as much, and the football match had its pros and cons. I would rate it between three and four stars overall, but thanks to Phil I ultimately decided on a weaker four pieces. 4* - // "Do you have any plans for the weekend?" "No, not yet, why?" "Great, I'll be waiting for you tomorrow morning at eight at the warehouse and dress professionally." ()

The Old Man & the Tree (2013) (S05E10)

Engels This pleased me, the creators did an excellent job with the Christmas episode and entertained me with the Claus family's marital crisis, Jay's Griswold-esque Christmas atmosphere outburst, the competition over the mother, and last but not least, Phil's run to Canada. I had a great time, and because I laughed along with Cameron and Lily, the grade was clear. //"Your great-grandmother taught me this recipe, if she could see you now, she would be disappointed because you're doing it wrong!" ()

And One to Grow On (2014) (S05E11)

Engels The eleventh episode focused too much on Mitchell and Cameron's upcoming wedding, and it was clearly noticeable. The pace slowed down, there wasn't as much humor as in the previous episode, and Phil and Haley saved the whole situation for me. Those two were the reason I didn't rate it below four stars. 4*- // "Jay, what do you like more, accents or balloons?" "I've been asking that since I met you." ()

Under Pressure (2014) (S05E12)

Engels The previous episode wasn't exactly ideal, this one was from a different barrel. I enjoyed it right from the opening episode of Alex's fit at the birthday cake, the following plot and sitting at the psychologist's didn't disappoint me, and the parental gathering and double date made me laugh out loud. // "She's like a self-cleaning oven." / "You know you're still going to pay me, even if you diagnose yourself?" ()

Three Dinners (2014) (S05E13)

Engels "And it happened to me again. The creators placed Dunphy's in one restaurant, Mitchell and Cameron in another, and the result was diametrically different. While I had a great time in the first case, I was quite bored in the second and the storyline between Jay and Shorty didn't excite me either. 4 stars - // "I think this is a bit too feminized." ()

iSpy (2014) (S05E14)

Engels "I really enjoyed the spy episode, it was quite intense, full of secrets and uncompromising interrogations. There were even surveillance operations using cutting-edge technology, and I didn't find a moment when I wasn't entertained. Jay also once again proved that thanks to his life experiences, he can handle almost any tricky situation. // "Claire, it's hard to figure you out, you don't trust tough guys, and then you marry one." ()

The Feud (2014) (S05E15)

Engels After the enthusiasm from the previous episode, there came a slight disappointment again. The episode had some bright moments, but in my opinion, it was somehow lacking that special something. Phil Dunphy manages to totally crack me up in most cases, but his rivalry with Gil Thorp doesn't really interest me much. 4 stars - "Ay, I miss my old, happy Manny." ()

Spring-a-Ding-Fling (2014) (S05E16)

Engels No, even this time I wasn't too satisfied, Phil's storyline didn't really resonate with me again (I know you can do better, Phil), Cameron with his pseudo worries didn't entertain me at all, and surprisingly it was mainly Mitchell who provided some fun, as he started a new job. 4* - // "Let's try to do it properly first, cautiously?" / "Well, it was close, before he learns to talk, I'll throw everything at him." ()

Other People's Children (2014) (S05E17)

Engels The seventeenth episode was slightly better than the previous one, but it still lacked perfection. Glorie and Claire were a great choice as Lily's companions for dress shopping, Phil was a great support for Andy while filming the video, and I also enjoyed the quartet of art admirers, but overall something was missing for me to add a fifth piece. // "You are my stepdaughter." "I am older than you." "See, I'm already having fun!" ()

Las Vegas (2014) (S05E18)

Engels Vegas, baby. I really had a great time. The creators really went all out in this episode, the humor was perfect, one funny line after another, and Glorie really kicked ass with her wit. Claire didn't fall behind with her tiny problem, but what I enjoyed the most was how everyone was involved in one big chaotic whirlwind, it was amazing. // "Vegas, you have a serious problem and her name is Claire." / "Excuse me, how much does that dog in the window cost?" / "That must be the Cuban delight I ordered for you." "Hola." ()
