Sometimes I am surprised by what beautiful things I come across. This is simply a fantastic movie, a nice example of how disabilities and romance can go hand in hand in a functional way, which is not overly sentimental and which will make you empathize with the characters. William Hurt is a captivating guide through this great film.

In the unusual setting of a school for the deaf and dumb, a touching and unusual love story takes place between a teacher and a deaf and dumb girl working at the school as a janitor. Deaf-mute Marleen Matlin plays a deaf-mute, and it won her an Oscar. A very beautiful and heartwarming film.
