De romantische picknick van Joe en Claire neemt een dramatische wending wanneer een groep ballonvaarders in nood geraakt en Joe samen met een paar andere aanwezigen een helpende hand moet bieden. Het resulteert in een verschrikkelijk ongeluk. In de nasleep krijgt Joe heel wat te stellen met mede redder in nood Jed. Claire steunt Joe aanvankelijk in zijn verwerking. Maar zijn groeiende obsessie met de oorzaak van het ongeluk en zijn schuldgevoel zet hun relatie onder hoge spanning. En als Jed dan ook nog eens steeds dieper in het leven van Joe binnendringt, komt Joe wel heel dicht bij een totale inzinking. (A-Film Benelux)

The movie gives us a peek into the messed-up human psyche after a tragic event. But man, I couldn't tell if my brain works in a totally different way or if the characters were just acting illogical in certain scenes. I would handle some situations completely differently, and the version presented to me seemed peculiar to say the least. Big props to Daniel Craig – he really held it together. The whole movie hinged on his performance, and even though I'm not exactly his biggest fan, I gotta give credit where it's due. The story would need to be more convincing for me to give a higher rating. / Lesson learned: Stay sharp. The world's full of some seriously twisted misfits (who might not even be to blame for it).
