Wayne, een brandweerman in opleiding, staat in de woestijn te oefenen voor z'n examen als hij een meteoriet in ziet slaan. De volgende dag weten de leraren Ira Kane en Harry Block de meteoriet te pakken te krijgen. Ze nemen een monster, en zien dat er een blauwe vloeistof uitkomt. In de vloeistof zit een eencellig organisme, dat echter razendsnel evolueert tot een compleet wezen. Als de aliens zich beginnen te verspreiden gaat het leger zich er mee bemoeien.
