Death Becomes Her (1992)

Engels Mediocre by Zemeckis’s standards, but the story itself hides a lot of truths. The desire for eternal youth...I can't count how many such eternal young women I see on the street.

Údolí včel (1967)

Engels The story of a religious fanatic who does not hesitate to take up the sword for the glory of God and for whom the desire for a normal life is alien. It is hard to believe that this film was made mainly to use the costumes from Markéta Lazarová. The Valley of the Bees is equally exquisite, oozing the atmosphere of the 13th century, and Zdeněk Liška's music is unique as always.

Cape Fear (1991)

Engels Already the opening shot of De Niro's tattoos on a chiseled body gives us a hint that we are going to see something interesting. Scorsese is back on his game and this remake easily surpasses its black and white predecessor. It's worth seeing, if only for the scene where De Niro as a supposedly bohemian teacher seduces Julliete Lewis – what she does is fabulous acting. I'd give it five stars, but the ending is unfortunately stupid, drawn out in the classic Hollywood way.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

Engels An action blast with revolutionary visual effects never seen before. Five stars for the T-1000 and its metamorphosis, five stars for the vision of nuclear war, three stars for the script, as well as for some scenes that were too militant for my taste (Arnie vs. a column of police cars). But to overlook the fact that this film meant so much to the development of filmmaking technology and visual effects would be a great sin. Therefore, the only and correct rating is for five, it’s just awesome!

Valmont (1989)

Engels Colin Firth looks too slick, lacking the devilish sparkle that Malkovich has in Frears's version. The whole film is surprisingly bland, without much emotion. Forman lost the direct contest with Frears commercially and, unfortunately, artistically.

White Squall (1996)

Engels It's not badly shot at all, the storm scene proves that this is a Scott film. But the rest? A story not worthy of a master of grand spectacles and original art stylization. That said, I can recommend it as a film to kill an evening.

The Untouchables (1987)

Engels An exhibition by De Palma, where he delights film fans with various references to famous works of the past (Battleship Potemkin and others). The biggest star is not the Oscar-winning Connery, but the secondary character of Al Capone, phenomenally played by Robert De Niro.

X-Men (2000)

Engels A great comic-book adaptation that combines elite Shakespearean actors, Hollywood celebrities, Singer's skillful direction and great visual effects. The casting is flawless, especially Wolverine and Toad.

Strange Days (1995)

Engels The irresistibly dark atmosphere of a crowded metropolis at the end of the millennium, when people are emotionally entertained by illegal virtual projections. The anticipation of the year 2000 gives the film a different dimension, and even though today we know that the century wasn’t that big a deal and that not much has changed, it is an interesting work of fiction. Produced by James Cameron.

The Saint (1997)

Engels It's a stale theme with Russian mobsters, but it's got a lot of spice and it's fun to watch, especially Elizabeth Shue. I would also like her to keep me warm, like Val Kilmer. :)
