The Box (2009)

Engels Ugh, we've ended up someplace completely different... I expected a lot from this movie. Unfortunately my expectations were not met. The movie was so bland and flavorless and there was too much unnecessary sci-fi. I do appreciate how it could be confusing, since I had to check about three times to make sure the film was from 2009. The clothes, home furnishings, and overall atmosphere are more in keeping with the time 20 years ago. A bit unhinged, but again, boringly unhinged.

Once (2007)

Engels The atmosphere of this film is very fragile and quite emotional. Despite the fact that the film has almost no story or plot and comes across as a bit of a documentary, it is enjoyable and interesting. Of course, the biggest credit for Once goes to the music, modesty, and love.

Toy Story (1995)

Engels A fantastic show! It's amazing how even an adult can be entertained by toys... I can't wait to watch the next two installments. Long live Toy Story!

Brothers (2009)

Engels A very emotional story and strong theme. Although that in itself would be useless if it weren't for the perfectly chosen cast. I usually get lost in psycho movies like this and want out. Here I was led by the hand by the amazing Natalie Portman. 4 stars.

The Blind Side (2009)

Engels Sandra Bullock's role of a lifetime. A strong mother with emotion, love, and courage. A beautiful story about how being great doesn't mean being confident. The first half of the film was very moving, the second half, when everything was all about football, was a bit weaker in my opinion.

The Rebound (2009)

Engels For the first time in a long time, a film that pleasantly surprised me. Catherine was indescribably divine. Justin Bartha's character perfectly set the film up where it needed to be. I'm really impressed with how the filmmakers made a non-everyday story into a non-everyday and original film. Kudos to the child actors as well... fun performances. For me number one, absolutely.

Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009)

Engels A beautiful film about how a dog can be loyal to his master. A beautiful film about how strong the relationship between a dog and a human can be. My only criticism of the film is the soundtrack, but even that didn't "diminish" the film. 4.5 stars.

Valentine's Day (2010)

Engels So many stars together, wow. It's a fact that I couldn't get into it at first and got slightly caught up in the plot. Fortunately though, I knew the strong majority of the cast so I got my bearings after a while. The ones I liked the most here were Ashton Kutcher and Jennifer Garner. The rest of the cast was also classy, but didn't particularly surprise me. The movie reminded me slightly of Love Actually and He’s Just Not That Into You...a little bit of everything. Only there were a few silly scenes... SPOILER ALERT!!! (for example: When A. Kutcher convinces the airport employee to sell him a plane ticket. He flatly refuses. Ashton says that the woman he wants to marry is like sunshine and suddenly the airport employee gives Kutcher the ticket, for free).

The Hangover (2009)

Engels Really funny and daring! Apologies to all my fellow moviegoers, as they probably couldn't hear anything over my laughter. Luckily we have subtitles here though... and it was really great in the original language. That's not true of the Czech dub. For those times when you want to cackle, cackle, and cackle.

Killers (2010)

Engels Except for one hilarious scene where Katherine roughly walks with a gun up her skirt, this movie was pretty boring. Until now, I had no idea Ashton Kutcher could not entertain me. Maybe it was the bad script, maybe it was Katherine, who, in my opinion, didn't look very pretty in the movie... either way, I expected more. NOT GREAT.
