Min Gi-heon is een voormalig geheim agent en Seo Bok is de eerste menselijke kloon, gecreëerd door stamcelklonen en genetische manipulatie. Hij bezit het geheim van het eeuwige leven. Wanneer meerdere partijen achter Seo Bok en zijn geheim aan zitten, raakt het lot van de twee mannen op verschillende manieren verbonden. Spectaculaire en gelikte scifi-actiethriller. Deze Koreaanse herinterpretatie van het Chinese verhaal van Xu Fu heeft het allemaal: een personage gecreëerd in een gecompliceerd en dubieus medisch proces, de voormalige agent die nu in de marges van de samenleving verkeert, loyaliteit en vriendschap, en natuurlijk heel veel spectaculaire actie. De tegengestelde personages – de een met nog maar heel weinig leven over, de ander met de eeuwigheid voor de boeg – stellen debuterend regisseur Lee Yong-ju in staat vragen over sterfelijkheid en familie te stellen, terwijl de hebzucht en het opportunisme van het bedrijfsleven een tweede plot vormen. Dit alles verpakt in een gelikte actiethriller die twee van de populairste jonge Koreaanse sterren samenbrengt. (Imagine Film Festival)

A Korean sci-fi smash hit with two acting aces! Yoo Gong (Train to Busan) is an agent with the task of safely transporting Park bo Gum, who is an artificially created clone with the ability of telekinesis. The Americans have a grudge against him and that makes the mission a bit more dangerous than it initially seemed. Beautifully shot, smart with interesting philosophical reflections, strong emotions, ominous music, and excellent action. The highway shootout is reminiscent of Sicario, it was quite brutal and intense, and I also enjoyed the play with telekinesis (I liked seeing a guy being smashed into the ground, splitting the concrete). There were also a few short and fast fights, and the finale is quite grand, although I honestly expected a bit more courage there, but it was decent. There aren't many films about clones with telekinesis, so I'm glad for this addition, even though I could imagine it being even more action-packed and wild, but they tried to appeal to more than just action fans. I’m hesitate with the rating, but thanks to the generous running time of only 90 minutes and the fresh subject of clones, I will give it a slight boost. 7/10.
