Lars von Trier's second film introduces many of the elements typical for his later productions. It presents the story of two young filmmakers who are pushed to come up with a new story concerning plague spreading across Europe - which starts leaking from the realm of fiction into reality. Epidemic is an originally rendered Kafkaesque story - plus it is an extremely hard-to-access title in the filmography of the idiomatic director. (Summer Film School)

I have a soft spot for Trier (judging for what I’ve seen so far), but I didn’t like Epidemic much. What is it actually about (other than what the synopsis says)? Is it the author's self-reflection, a joke, a parable of the bad consequences of good intentions…? There are some ideas and I do like complex films, but this one is missing clear clues. ()
