Engels Bad Company is an exceedingly drawn out and monotonous action movie about secret agents. It’s outshined by the first Mission: Impossible in terms of power, screenwriting sophistication, atmosphere and action scenes. It’s just a routine, unoriginal movie with no build-up, and it fails to utilise the mentoring potential of Anthony Hopkins. Anyone else could have been in his place and it wouldn’t have changed anything. ()

Engels Schumacher's work is a bit of a mystery to me. On the one hand, he is able to pick an interesting script and turn it into a complete hit, like Phone Booth, 8 MM and Falling Down, on the other hand, he flirts too often with mediocrity. Bad Company is an action flick that doesn’t have anything to offer. The script is full of clichés, predictable, and I'm tired of those "last second" endings I've seen hundreds of times. Hopkins must be doing pretty bad to take such poorly written roles, but if he's taking them, he could at least pretend to enjoy it; here he looked tired and uninterested. Anything good about it? Maybe those few shots that looked like a travel agent’s advert for a trip to Prague, which is far from enough for one movie. PS: I don't like the overacting Chris Rock, but he was surprisingly watchable in this film. ()

Engels Joel Schumacher's classic dynamic direction with fast camera, cuts, decent pace, and fast music is very good. The film could have been better, but let's be glad it turned out at least like this and it wasn't another flop like Batman's. I really liked Chris Rock's wisecracks and Anthony Hopkins' calmness. Surprisingly, a well-chosen cast. ()

Engels A (below) average action spectacle that is interesting mainly because of where it takes place, and because of Karel Gott. I get the feeling that Anthony Hopkins didn't enjoy filming at all - and I'm not surprised. If the filmmakers wanted to make something like Enemy of the State, they failed. Still, there are a few lighter moments, not every action scene is bad, and a few good jokes are entertaining. ()
