Kapitein Jakob Störr (Gijs Naber) sluit op een dag een weddenschap met een vriend af: hij zal trouwen met de eerste vrouw die over de drempel van het café stapt. Dan loopt de beeldschone Lizzy (Léa Seydoux) binnen. Deze ontmoeting staat in de sterren geschreven, maar hun liefdesverhaal neemt al snel een andere wending. Jakob vermoedt dat Lizzy hem ontrouw is. Hoewel er mooie zeetochten naar hem lonken, wordt hij volledig opgeslokt door allesbeheersende jaloezie. (Pathé)

Ildikó Enyedi slightly disappointed me with her new film. After the extremely original picture On Body and Soul, she comes back with a love story, but this time it's a bit more classic. The director's distinctive signature and at times almost magical poetry cannot be denied in this romantic drama The Story of My Wife, but the viewer's attention wanes due to the unnecessarily drawn-out plot. The reason may lie in the book, which I haven't read, so I can't really say in this respect. (65%)
