Kekoa is a rebellious teen hell-bent on ignoring the death of his mother until his younger cousin, Mika, decides to intervene. Upon seeing a lizard next to the portrait of his recently deceased aunt and thinking it a reincarnation of her, 10-year-old Mika is compelled to prove the existence of ghosts and the afterlife to his cousin. A little misguided, Mika mistakes his own ways of coping as one that Kekoa will easily accept. Kekoa reacts with rejection and anger and is unable to mourn in a way best suited to him. The clashing ideals between these two only serve to push them further apart. It is only when Kekoa and Mika see their differences, do they realize that grief sometimes takes unexpected forms.
