Engels An episode from the Duels series, known internationally as Face to Face. The story of two representatives of haute couture who "competed" with each other in the 1920s and 1930s, but after the war, it was Chanel who, after a long hiatus, started doing business again in 1954 and Schiaparelli retired at the same time. It seems that Schiaparelli has been forgotten, but Chanel was the one who collaborated during the war, while Schiaparelli only lived in abundance... Evaluating the fate of prominent figures of the first half of the 20th century is never easy, but it is also not good to reduce pre-war fashion trends to little black dresses and Chanel No. 5 perfume. The pioneering generation, to which both Chanel and Schiaparelli belonged, who managed to strip women of the uncomfortable fashions of the early part of the century, removing from their wardrobes complex constructions, padding, and other elements restricting natural movement, inevitably felt betrayed by the post-war return of wide, reinforced skirts and all the frilly nonsense of Dior's New Look. Fortunately, after the turbulent 20th century, we live in such a fashionably loose era that we can be inspired by anything and create our own style. We can hide like Chanel costumes and shower ourselves with pearls, just as we can indulge in Schiaparelli knitwear from the 1927 season. Her sweaters, full of interesting optical special effects in geometric shapes with the help of a few colors, are still appealing and their variations can be seen again and again. What followed was an encounter with the Avant-garde and film costumes, and each chapter is very interesting. ()
