Clever

Thirty-five-year old Taekwondo instructor Clever's life doesn't match up with his name. His wife has dumped him, and no part in the world welcomes him. He tries to be a good dad but it is not easy. The only pleasure left for him is to pimp up his vintage car. Fascinated by the flame drawn on a neighbor's car, without much planning he sets off on a journey to find the person who drew it. Could Clever have the best drawing on his car? Working together since 2005, Federico Borgia and Guillermo Madeiro's first feature film is a comedy with wicked irony and original, unconventional characters. The eccentric ensemble of characters and elaborate editing create a peculiar tension as if the film had a funny conversation with the audience's mind. Cartoonish imagination, retro atmosphere and laid-back attitude shine in this dorky yet smart comedy, showing new energy of Uruguayan cinema. (Busan International Film Festival)
