De film vertelt het verhaal van acteur Bob Crane. Hij werd bekend als de ster van de hitkomedie Hogan's Heroes. Crane nam het er flink van, en had relaties met verschillende vrouwen. Uiteindelijk gaat Crane samenwerken met video-techneut John Carpenter om zijn seksuele uitstapjes op film vast te leggen. Greg Kinnear and Willem Dafoe are unique, but this movie set in the porn business is somehow inappropriately negative and unlikable. Boogie Nights, for example, is in a completely different league, with a wonderful balance of humor, satire and tragedy.

On the one hand, the characters are realistic, excellently written and acted, on the other hand, this is a film about nothing where nothing much happens, it just flows. It's not until about 25 minutes before the end that any real action starts. Solid, average and forgettable.
