One of those “golden” movies from the 1970s normalisation era. Mach’s weak attempt at a Vorlíček-like comedy is clueless in all respects, with even the mandatory social satire in the form of a greedy butcher. Poor Pepa Kemr, what he got himself into. ()
A highly unsuccessful attempt at satirical comedy with a fairy tale motif, which failed miserably due to its poor screenplay. It can boast only of an interesting cast. The direction is uninspired, and the humor is scarce. Overall impression: 20%. This film is simply utterly silly. Even the basic element - the owner of a magical genie - doesn't think to utilize its abilities for anything other than turning inconvenient people into monkeys... ()
Monkey's Playtime is similar to other normalization emblems of the time. The only thing of any (at least historical) value is Miloslav Šimek in the small role of a teacher. ()
I don’t understand the low rating. It's bollocks, but throwing it in the garbage together with gems like Troška’s Kamenák seems quite unfair, if only because of Josef Kemr, who played the role of the genie to perfection. ()
