Een blanke dokter - wonende in een Indianen gemeenschap als medicijnman in het regenwoud - slaagt er in een medicijn te maken tegen kanker. Hij vraagt dan ook dringend versterking aan zijn opdrachtgevers en krijgt die ook in de vorm van een vrouwelijke botanica om een onbekend element in zijn medicijn tegen kanker te analyseren. De tijd dringt want het regenwoud wordt met de minuut uitgedund en verwoest daarbij belangrijk materiaal om het serum tegen kanker te maken. (Columbia TriStar Films)

An ode to the rescue of nature, Deforestation, and the Issue of decreasing green areas on our planet. Simply put, it is presented powerfully, narrated smartly, and fairly well-acted within the genre. There are some phenomenal scenes, and just as important as the director's name is the main music composer, none other than the legendary Jerry Goldsmith. Although Medicine Man addresses current politics and the relationship between humans and nature, it is more of a classic adventure and thrilling story about the search for a cure for the worst disease of mankind, so the message remains somewhat halfway.

A beautiful film that I have to give five stars to. The Connery+jungle+amazing Goldsmith+McTiernan+cinematography combination will always fascinate me. The film is touching, entertaining and informative, and it deserves praise for not becoming a cheap environmental agitprop, although it could have been.
