De New Yorkse volkswijk Hell's Kitchen 1966. De jongeren Shakes, Michael, John en Tommy houden zich bezig met het plegen van kruimeldiefstallen. Maar op een dag doden ze per ongeluk bijna een man. Daar de man niet overlijdt en hij bijkomt van zijn verwondingen in het ziekenhuis komen de jongens er af met een "milde straf". Ze worden opgepakt en komen voor één jaar in een jeugdtehuis terecht. Daar worden ze seksueel en psychologisch mishandeld door enkele bewakers waaronder Sean Nokes. Tien jaar later zien Tommy en John hem terug in een bar en nemen hun wraak. Michael is ondertussen een heel invloedrijke procureur geworden en Shakes een journalist. Ze besluiten John en Tommy te helpen. (PolyGram Filmed Entertainment Distribution)
