Op een zonovergoten dag in het park rennen de vijfjarige Maria en haar broertje Ilie rond in een drukke speeltuin. Vader Tudor drinkt koffie en kletst met de andere ouders. Iedereen let op en toch gebeurt het onvoorstelbare: ineens is Maria weg. Hulptroepen worden ingeschakeld en doen hun uiterste best, maar 's avonds zitten Tudor en zijn vrouw Cristina verslagen thuis: hun dochter is écht verdwenen. Hoe ontwrichtend dit verdriet en deze pijn is, toont regisseur Popescu door vervolgens ruim twee uur lang vader Tudor te volgen in zijn pogingen om dichter bij een antwoord te komen. Heeft die charmante ex-collega van Cristina er wellicht iets mee te maken? En wie is eigenlijk die kinderloze vreemde snuiter in het park? Het is hartverscheurend om hem te zien afglijden in een verblindende wanhoop. (International Film Festival Rotterdam)

A very difficult movie, which definitely isn’t for everyone. Quite the opposite. A blockbuster viewer, for example, would probably die of boredom because the endless shots could be easily shortened by an hour and the film wouldn’t have to be 152 minutes long at all. But on the other hand, it is in the long shots where the power lies and it turns the movie into a unique experience, which isn’t worth 5 stars in my books, but on the other hand, I don’t claim there’s nothing special about it. The character of the dad is, in the case of this movie, Oscar-worthy. The performance he gave is unparalleled in the movie industry.
