The Son I Never Had

My entire life I was lied to. I was told I had to keep secrets, and because of this, I always felt different. At 19, I discovered I was born intersex. Upon this discovery, I retrieved my medical records which detailed unnecessary genital surgeries and began recording painful conversations with my parents and grandmother. 10 years later, The Son I Never Had poetically weaves parts of my medical records and my family's story, in a love letter to my younger self and all of those trying to survive outside the binary.
