Het is 1968. In Parijs protesteren studenten tegen de Franse regering. In deze setting ontmoeten de drie hoofdpersonen van The Dreamers elkaar. Matthew is een Amerikaan die studeert in Parijs. Hij is een echte cinefiel: al zijn vrije tijd brengt hij door in de Cinemathèque. Hier zijn de tweeling Isabelle en Theo ook altijd te vinden. Tijdens een studentenbijeenkomst ontmoeten ze elkaar en raken bevriend. De ouders van de tweeling zijn op reis, dus Matthew verruilt zijn hotelkamer al snel voor de logeerkamer bij zijn nieuwe vrienden. De drie trekken zich terug uit de buitenwereld en discussiëren over films en politiek onder het genot van dure wijn. Maar bovenal spelen zij hun favoriete spel: het imiteren van filmscènes. The Dreamers is het verhaal van zelfontdekking van drie jonge studenten die elkaar onderwerpen aan tests om te zien hoe ver ze zullen en kunnen gaan. (A-Film Benelux)

I understand Bertolucci's obsession with the beauty of Eva Green, but when each openly erotic scene feels slightly less than the previous one, this trilogy falls into sadly forgettable average. The pleasantly nostalgic feeling disappears, the story drowns itself, and only occasional beautiful shots (such as Eva as Venus) can pull me out of the excessive constraint. As a result, this dream leaves me completely unaffected, despite the fact that the entire form aimed much higher.

An eye candy solution to the schematism around 1968 and the affair of French cinema. Fortunately, more important than Henri Langlois is the knowledge of films with Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich, and the application of cinematic pleasure to domestic orgies. So you feel like masturbating in front of a picture from Blue Angel? Enjoy and forget about Godard.
