(Cinema Delicatessen)

Engels A beautiful documentary about Istanbul, its cats and people who love those cats. They talk about them with respect, joy and with love and I have to say that I could for a moment forget about the current situation in our country. By which I mean the thoughts of all those who have sanctuaries and shelters and are trying to take care of kittens or cats and always get angry about how people here perceive cats so they won’t even castrate them let alone leave them closed at home so that they could slowly get used to the outside. I totally agree but Turkish people see it differently. You can’t blame them, but as they say – so many countries, so many customs. On the other hand they are trying and that was nicely presented in this documentary. I grew fond of Istanbul when I visited many years ago and watching this reminded me of that fondness. ()

Engels At first glance, it seems ridiculous - that some enthusiast wants to follow wild urban cats that don't have an owner, but as the camera follows the cats, it also follows how they affect human destinies and how the city is shaped around them. This is an interesting perspective that surprisingly tells us more than one would initially think. ()
