Dublin, jaren '80. De veertienjarige Conor verkast van een privéschool naar een ruige openbare school in Dublin. Op school krijgt hij te maken met een strenge meester en thuis doen z'n ouders niks anders dan ruzie maken. Zijn ontsnapping is de muziek, waarvan hij de basis van zijn oudere broer Brendan meekrijgt. Als hij de mooie Raphina tegenkomt is Conor op slag verliefd. Hij vraagt of ze in de videoclip van z'n band wil spelen. Conor zal snel moeten handelen om een formatie samen te stellen, want de band waar hij het over heeft om indruk te maken op Raphina, bestaat namelijk nog niet. (Independent Films)

This type of story will never get old. On the contrary, it will always be pleasant to watch. Then it’s only about whether the music, characters, and location of the movie are right for you. Well, and since I watched films in a similar vein and gave them 5 stars, I will give this one “only” four stars. Nevertheless, they are very solid four stars that shine very brightly in the realm of Irish cinema.

A lovely musical that excellently captures a certain era, presenting Ireland with its problems, although not in a very complex way. Primarily, it's a great musical film. The music here really grabs you. However, when it comes to the storyline, it just couldn't impress me, as it felt too clichéd.
