Malcolm is een nerd wonend in de The Bottoms, een ruwe buurt gelegen in Inglewood, Los Angeles. Tussen de drugsdealers en bende oorlogen probeert Malcolm vooral zijn examens te halen en z'n collegeaanvragen te voldoen, met een droom om ooit naar Harvard te gaan. Wanneer de kans zich voordoet om naar een hip underground feest te gaan, leidt dit tot een groot avontuur voor Malcolm en zijn vriendin, waarin hij eindelijk dope kan zijn. This is a film that is a very pleasant surprise in several ways. First and foremost, it's the young actors who show that they are incredibly capable and that they carry the whole film just fine on their own. The second aspect is the characters that appear here, and subsequently, the screenplay, which has something of Pulp Fiction in it, but it's different, modern, and aimed at the youth.
