In Dior and I krijgen we een uniek inkijkje in de doorgaans gesloten wereld van Modehuis Christian Dior. Regisseur Frédéric Tcheng volgt in het voorjaar van 2012 de Belgische ontwerper Raf Simons die als de nieuwe artistiek directeur van Dior zijn eerste haute couture-collectie creëert. De verwachtingen van de buitenwereld zijn hooggespannen. Van de eerste ideeën tot de uiteindelijke modeshow zien we hoe de onverstoorbare Simons en zijn toegewijde, charmante en vaak humoristische medewerkers energiek en liefdevol te werk gaan. Een bijzondere film waarin Tcheng de dagelijkse druk in het modehuis laat voelen, een elegante buiging maakt naar de geschiedenis van Dior en een hommage brengt aan de coupeuses in het atelier. My first documentary experience from the fashion industry. It definitely deserves attention just because it shows how it actually works in one of the most prestigious haute couture houses in the world, when a new collection is being prepared and a new person is about to take the helm. During those ninety minutes, we are treated to the glitter of all those pretty and expensive dresses, the making of which is a lot of hard work, nerves and pressure. While watching, you might think that it is ONLY fashion, but this documentary is about the people for whom it was, is and always will be THE fashion. An excursion into a world that is not for everyone, and one that requires talent and sharp elbows.

Fashion films just don't resonate with me, so even this relatively well-made documentary didn't capture my interest. On one hand, you can see the artistry in creating the clothes, but on the other hand, I feel it's just snobbish and very superficial. But that's just heavily influenced by my personal perception.
