From Haitian-Canadian filmmaker Martine Chartrand, Black Soul (Âme Noire) employs a paint-on-glass animation technique, along with an intricate soundscape and score, to explore and celebrate Black culture though key moments in history. Though formally abstract, the film is rooted in a young boy learning about his past from his grandmother, emphasizing how history - and identity - live on through generations.
