Mathias Gold, een berooide New Yorkse schrijver, erft van zijn vader een waardevol appartement in Parijs. Hij reist direct naar de Franse hoofdstad met het doel dit te verkopen. Daar ontdekt hij echter dat een oude dame, Mathilde, met haar dochter Chloé in het appartement woont. Een Franse wet schrijft voor dat hij het huis pas mag verkopen na Mathilde’s overlijden. En dit is niet de enige verrassing voor Mathias, die tot de ontdekking komt dat hij zijn vader nauwelijks heeft gekend. (Imagine)

A pleasant movie that reminds me of A Good Year in many regards. Only with the difference that A Good Year’s characters were way more likeable and the locations were one grade higher; I’m not saying that Kevin Kline didn’t put on a good show or that Paris was any less charming than the French countryside. It’s all about what personalities and what places I’m personally drawn to and My Old Lady is just on a different level in this regard. On the other hand, some of Kevin Kline’s business skills make me laugh to this day.

Such a pleasant story that will leave you with quite nice feelings and faith in better relationships between people, but still, these feelings will quickly disappear and it is quite possible that you won't remember much from the movie the next day. But that first impression, those first feelings are truly quite pleasant.
